Neutral ratings
Ratings appear only after both buyer and seller independently submit feedback, preventing one-sided scoring.
On Mumbaimart, a five-star rating only shows up when both sides have left public comments—no exceptions. This stops fake reviews where one person gushes while the other stays silent. Neutral ratings ensure fairness, especially in cases where a seller might be tempted to only solicit happy customers for reviews.
The system also prevents bait-and-switch tactics. For example, a painter can’t post five-star reviews from before they improved quality—each rating is tied to a specific completed trade with feedback describing context like timeliness, skill, or communication. Buyers looking for reliability see how performance changed over time.
Feedback is anonymous during review submission—users don’t see who rated them until both have rated. This reduces pressure to leave exaggerated praise or retaliatory negativity. Comments are held for moderation to remove personal attacks or off-topic remarks, keeping ratings focused on trade experience.
