Funding
Census.com is sustained through institutional subscriptions, foundation grants, and government partnerships.
We operate on a noncommercial, public-interest model. Revenue comes from institutional subscriptions used by universities, libraries, and government agencies; targeted grants from foundations supporting open data and civic tech; and collaborative agreements with federal partners to support data dissemination efforts. This diversified funding structure preserves our independence and ensures services remain available to all users, regardless of ability to pay.
Institutional subscriptions are tiered by usage volume and access level, with discounts for public institutions and nonprofit organizations. Grants are project-specific and always exclude commercial data sales or advertising. Government partnerships involve technical support or co-developed tools, never data licensing or exclusive access. We publish annual financial summaries outlining revenue sources and expenditures.
Our funding model prevents conflicts of interest and aligns with federal guidelines for nonpartisan data stewardship. We do not accept funding tied to data distortion, political influence, or product placement. This transparency helps users trust the neutrality of our presentation and analysis, reinforcing Census.com’s role as a neutral conduit for official statistics.
