Our Work

Sources

Every dataset on Census.com traces directly to official U.S. Census Bureau releases and related federal surveys.

We source exclusively from publications and microdata released by the U.S. Census Bureau and its authorized partners. This includes decennial census counts, American Community Survey tables, Population Estimates Program datasets, and survey products like the Current Population Survey and Census of Agriculture. We never modify or reinterpret raw data—only repackage it with consistent structure, geographic alignment, and contextual documentation. This ensures users can verify findings against the original source.

Our pipeline captures datasets at the moment of federal release and applies version control, documentation tracking, and cross-reference tags. For example, when the 2020 Census redistricting data (P.L. 94-171) was published, we ingested all summary files with metadata including release date, geographic summary levels, and variable definitions. Users can trace each table to its exact publication series, code, and version number via our data catalog.

By preserving citation trails and source metadata, we support reproducibility and compliance with academic or regulatory standards. Journalists can verify reporting; planners can audit assumptions; researchers can replicate analyses. Every download includes a machine-readable citation and link to the original Census Bureau release. This approach builds trust and safeguards the integrity of public data use.
